Instead of it being by your own good works you will see that in the Bible it says God wants to be the hero and save us. All we have to do is admit we are sinners and recieve what Jesus did on the cross for us 2000 years ago. Then God's righteousness is credited to our account. Otherwise, how would you know if you were ever perfect enough to go to heaven.
This is probably the one main this evangelicals have in common and that differentiates us from liturgical Christian traditions that baptize babies for salvation.
We believe that it needs to be an adult or a child who understands salvation enough and prays to ask Jesus to come into their heart.
If you want to be saved reading the book of Romans or the Gospel of John is a good place to start.
Genesis 15:6 says that Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness.
Salvation by faith is not new. It is Jewish and goes all the way back to Abraham.
